Receiving medical care in a foreign country is commonly known as medical tourism and it’s estimated that thousands of US residents travel abroad for care each year. For many patients who have made this choice there are multiple advantages. Savings on medical expenses, access to medical procedures that are unavailable in their country of residence, shorter waiting period to get an appointment and last but not least visiting and discovering a foreign country. And the medical tourism market is constantly expanding. Procedures include everything from cosmetic to life altering to life-saving. But when looking for the best rates or a beautiful interesting exotic location the key question remains, which health care provider is a quality provider that can be trusted? That’s why the focus of the new world of medical tourism series has been to highlight organizations who play a vital role in the health and well-being of people from all across the globe. One such company is ASMED Surgical Medical Center ASMED exclusively performs manual a follicular unit extraction or FUE hair restoration surgery and has been doing so since 2001. Extractions are performed manually in order to enhance care and precision. The most important thing to get a good regrowth rate. You have to handle this – the grafts in a very well and experienced way without damaging them. But the first step is making a perfect plan according to your patient’s expectations. You have to make the best plan because every case is a different case. In some cases you need maybe 35 grafts per cm2, in some cases you need 50-60 grafts per cm2 and these are all related with the donor capacity. So to make the best combination of your patients and balance their expectation is the key words in hair restoration. Beyond that ASMED utilizes the KE-BOT robot to scan for coverage and the keep placer to avoid trauma to the grafts. We develop KE-BOT. We are working on this for nearly 1.5 year. But this will be a new step in hair restoration in all around the world. When we finished, I presented in the first time in Lisbon, Buenos Aires and Avignon and this would be the probably this will be the major improvement in hair restoration in last year’s. So from now on all the surgeries will be done by these type of calculations. It allows us to actually capture all the information from the head. We have two camera systems running. The first one captures the 3D model of the head and the second one actually captures high resolution images. And we are using these high resolution images to detect number of follicles and number of hairs in each follicle at the pre-operational stage. ASMED also believes that art in combination with science is an important component when it comes to the hair restoration procedure. ASMED is combining medicine with art and hair restoration is an artistic procedure. We have to handle every patient one by one in a different way. We are taking care our patients with every detail. Holding solutions, operation plan, how many grafts per cm2, mathematical calculations, patient, expectations… So we are combining all these together and one by one we are trying to make everybody happy and try to balance expectations. And one reason that ASMED is so successful at balancing these expectations, its staff. Long before any member of the surgical team begins assisting with procedures. ASMED believes that proper training is critical to ensure patient success. Hair restoration is a team job and you need a well educated team. You are sharing the surgery with your surgical assistants. So to get any enough experience you need the practice, have to educate your staff. This is KE-HEAD. This is a model of training and they are placing minimum 10.000 grafts before placing any graft to any patient. So after finishing this 10.000 grafts exercises, it takes nearly two years, after two year they started to place grafts on real patients and with starting maximum 50 grafts. Patient safety and comfort have put ASMED at the forefront of the hair restoration stage on a global level. As an anesthesiologist at ASMED, I mainly focused on patient safety and patient comfort. For patient safety, we monitorize them with special monitoring system from the beginning till the end of the operation. We can see the vital signs of patient during in this building from everywhere with our phones, with main central monitor and in the operation rooms. Also our surgical operation room conditions are utmost. Our sterilization is perfect. And also for the comfort, the pain management is very important. Because everyone talks about local anesthesia pain, but we don’t have pain in fact. We have special vibration equipment, we have special medicines inside the local anesthesia medicines and also we have special pain relief medicines which we give through the IV way. Patients from all across the globe trust Dr Erdogan to restore their hair and help them regain their confidence and the look that has progressively receded from their life. Having a procedure like this you do a lot of research and I didn’t think anybody could match the techniques and the results were really good. So that was my number one concern is having a safe place to do this procedure and that’s why I chose here. Hair is very important to me in my career. I do a lot of client facing type of work. So it’s important that I have a good appearance for my clients. And also is just for me gives me more confidence both you know in my professional career and my personal life as well. I feel like I can get a, you know, the same if not better results at a cheaper price that’s you know one factor for me that’s you know one factor for me and also the experience, the number of procedures have been done by ASMED as you know was one thing that stood out to me and that’s another factor that it was important to me. If my patients will choose ASMED clinic and they decided to trust to me, they should know that this that we will follow all our patients till they will get the maximum satisfactory results and they will never feel alone in this way. We are making this journey together. And while the list of things that put ASMED on our top hair restoration clinics in the world list is a lot longer than we have time for, here’s five key points about their services that we think really separates them apart from all the rest. Number one value, quality and price. Number two, precision and artistry. Number three patient care. Number four innovative instrumentation and devices and number five tried and true techniques. The fact is those patients who are looking for world-class care in an international historic location and where the critical components of quality price and experience converge, will surely find it in Istanbul Turkey at ASMED Surgical Medical Center. %95 of my patients are coming from European countries, United States, Canada, Australia. It’s possible to see in ASMED four different patients, one of them from Canada, Brasil, Australia and China. So we get use this for many years. So we will continue to take our place and I believe that health tourism is the feature of ASMED also.
